Growth Mindset.. Sharing with my niece

Image
This weekend, I was able to spend some time with my niece. She is 15 years old and is incredibly smart. There are time that I have noticed where she is overwhelmed with school and she mentions to me about she has too much going on and juggling can be difficult. I started to realize that she is somewhat a mini version of me.  I started giving her advice and I told her that she needed to push through because hard work always pays off. Of course she decided to challenge me and I began to explain to her that when someone faces difficulty they must work hard because once you overcome that you can see the growth that came from the situation. I told her that at all times she has to face situations with a growth mentality. If she cannot see her way around something then she can push herself to go straight through. Many times we stop our own growth because we deem something is too hard, or we get scared because we do not know what is on the other side. If we approach everything with a ...

Learning Challenge... My happiness board

I think it is very important to highlight positive things that happen in our lives daily. For a while, I began to realize that I was viewing many aspects of my life very negatively and it was mostly because I was always so stressed out. I was craving some down time that I just did not have time for. I started reading some stories about waking up and being thankful for everything we have in our lives, good or bad. This was supposed to in turn make you feel more positive. I tried this and it worked for me. Of course slowly with time I started losing this technique. For this week, I am going to try this challenge because in a way it is very similar to what I had tried before. I love writing things down on my dry erase board because it is something I look at everyday. I can commit to this more than I can commit to writing a blog post because I pass my board on the way out everyday and that will ensure that I don't forget. I am going to pick something good that happened everyday of th...

Tech Tip.. Canvas Mobile App

I currently have the Canvas app installed into my phone already. I am the type of person to always be on the go and I find simple apps very useful. If it wasn't for the app itself I would have to go to Safari and then find the site, log in, and view everything separately. The app makes it so simple to navigate between courses and view grades or notifications. This is a lot easier than when D2L was the platform. The only thing that I have been having an issue with is the way grades are viewed for some courses. For example, for some of my classes instead of showing a letter grade it will only show the points that I have received. When it comes to trying to find a quick letter grade that can be challenging. Other than that it is great in all aspects. One time I was in the waiting room at the doctors and I was able to view powerpoint and other materials to study while passing the time waiting. Overall, I really enjoy the app and I was eager to download it as soon as it was available.
