Topic Brainstorm

Image
Karma Karma would be a topic for my storybook that I would consider doing. I am a firm believer in karma and I think researching the topic would be interesting. There are many cases that have karmic effects so I could use those ideas in my stories. Many people do not believe in karma and I could also research that aspect of it and find ways to incorporate in my storybook. I know the overall idea of karma but I would like to learn the spiritual belief of it thoroughly. In my storybook, I would like to make each story about a case that deals with preventable karma. I do not only want it to be about karma but also how it can be prevented through our choices. The image above is a display of karma.  Reincarnation I am very interested in this topic because I am a skeptic. I am mostly skeptical because I have never really researched reincarnation. If I choose to do this for my storybook I will be able to research it more in depth and get a better understanding. I would like t...

Reading Notes... Part B Ramayan

Ramayana PDE By: Valmiki The point of view is in third person. I have been thinking about the point of view in which I would choose to write a story and I think it would be easier to write it in third person. However, I am looking to challenge myself and write it in first person and have the plot follow one character throughout and look into their experiences from their perspective. The character that I would choose to narrate in third person would probably be male simply because I want to veer away from narrating a female so that I am able to be creative and not put personal thoughts into the character itself. Some of the sentences in the story can be confusing and I reread twice to understand because of the language used. That is something I would like to do different. Vocabulary that is descriptive but also concise enough to be understood clearly is something very important in my opinion. The image above is from "Dasharatha's Funeral" which I personally like...

Reading Notes. Part B

Image
Rabbit Jataka Tales by Ellen C. Babbitt I like this story because it uses a similar plot line that can be related to other stories told but in a different way. For my story, I would like to use a similar idea. I could use a common tale and create my own version of it using different characters. Monkey Eastern Stories and Legends by Marie L. Shedlock In this story, they include short stanzas toward the end and that is something I may want to use in my stories. The monkey turns out to be clever in the end. I would like to make my one of my characters that way. The monkey gets to a tough spot but is able to quickly turn his own luck around. Crane and Crab The Giant Crab, and Other Tales from Old India by W. H. D. Rouse This story was a little sad because it resulted in fish and a crane dying and I was not expecting that but I still understood the reason for it and the moral it was trying to portray. I definitely believe in the idea of karma and this story had similar referenc...

Reading Options

Image
This is the first option that I looked into for readings this semester. THE SLAYING OF KīCAKA I found this on the list of stories on the link provided. I am also going to read the PDE versions for Ramayana and  Mahabharata . Since they provide helpful links I think it will help me understand. The images will also be helpful.  I am also interested in reading the comic book Ganesha  since this will be a slightly different format.  Image above is from the cover of Ganesha .
