Reading Notes. Part B

Image
Rabbit Jataka Tales by Ellen C. Babbitt I like this story because it uses a similar plot line that can be related to other stories told but in a different way. For my story, I would like to use a similar idea. I could use a common tale and create my own version of it using different characters. Monkey Eastern Stories and Legends by Marie L. Shedlock In this story, they include short stanzas toward the end and that is something I may want to use in my stories. The monkey turns out to be clever in the end. I would like to make my one of my characters that way. The monkey gets to a tough spot but is able to quickly turn his own luck around. Crane and Crab The Giant Crab, and Other Tales from Old India by W. H. D. Rouse This story was a little sad because it resulted in fish and a crane dying and I was not expecting that but I still understood the reason for it and the moral it was trying to portray. I definitely believe in the idea of karma and this story had similar referenc

Reading Options

Image
This is the first option that I looked into for readings this semester. THE SLAYING OF KÄ«CAKA I found this on the list of stories on the link provided. I am also going to read the PDE versions for Ramayana and  Mahabharata . Since they provide helpful links I think it will help me understand. The images will also be helpful.  I am also interested in reading the comic book Ganesha  since this will be a slightly different format.  Image above is from the cover of Ganesha .

Time Strategies

Image
I am usually that person that takes on a lot of the time so time management is crucial to me. Overall, this semester is a busy one so I am working to create a schedule that I can work with so that I can succeed. I read the article about setting small goals and I think that that is something that I am working on this semester. Previously, I have always thought long term and that can be slightly hard to fulfill when life happens and so many other responsibilities come up. This summer a lot piled up so I had to set up a schedule which I am currently trying to implement. For this course I was able to spread the time out based on my class schedule. The days that I only have one class on campus which are Monday and Wednesday, I am able to put forth more time for assignments. Tuesdays and Thursdays are busier so I set aside a shorter amount of time because that is what I can be realistic about. I also love to say "I am too busy" but after reading the article , I realized that I ju

Using Technology

Image
This class is very different than the others especially with a lot of the technology that will be used. I have never used blogger before and so far it is pretty fun and easy to use. I am excited to create a website because I have never had to do anything like it. I am very familiar with memes so graphic editing is something I know but I have never created my own. Overall the technology seems fairly easy to learn and interesting to use so I am looking forward to it.  The quote above is much like blogging.

Class Assignments

Image
I have never taken a class like this one before and I am looking forward to it. The grading was slightly confusing at first but once I started submitting the week 1 assignments it made sense. I definitely understand the idea of working ahead which I will try to do. This semester is a busy one but this class makes it a little easier to juggle 19 hours. I am looking forward to the storybook project because it is somewhat like creative writing and that is always fun. The wikipedia extra credit assignment seems interesting since it is something I do at times when I want to learn more. I am also looking forward to the growth mindset assignment since it is something that I would like to apply to my own life. I look forward to the reading assignments as well since reading is something I enjoy doing as a hobby. Something that makes this class stand out is that we are able to work towards the grade we want by completing assignments versus being penalized by not completing assignments. The i

Moving Forward... Growth Mindset

Image
I have never thought about this theory being actually explored but after watching the videos I am intrigued by the whole idea. In a way it is somewhat like the saying "seeing the glass as half full versus half empty". This is very important because a lot of the times people do experience failure and it pushes them to give up on trying. By being able to accept the minor set back and move forward we are capable of so much more. Many times we do get wrapped up in a midget where we only have one shot at things and it becomes almost impossible to thrive. This is crucial in learning, especially for children who are trying their hardest but occasionally do face obstacles. I have been very fortunate to grow up with parents who raised me in an environment where not being there "yet" is acceptable. They have always taught me that I can always do better even if I am not there yet. Even now being in college this is still their mindset and it has helped me with the way I address

Introduction to Busy College Student

Image
My name is Catalina Cardenas. I am a Senior at the University of Oklahoma. My major is Health & Exercise Science along with pre-nursing. I am also in the National Guard so I have been looking into the PA program offered through the military. I spent nine months on deployment in Kuwait and it was definitely an experience. That slightly set me back in school so I am slowly started to catch up. The image above is a photo I took of a bazaar in Kuwait.   I started out as an education major since growing up that has always been a passion of mine but then I veered away from that after my first semester of college.   This past summer I took classes nonstop since the end of spring so I was not able to travel. I have a couple of trips planned throughout the rest of the semester and also at the very end. Every winter break I am able to travel back to visit family in Mexico so I will be visiting there also.  I was able to maintain a 3.5 GPA last semester so this semester I am going for a

Storybook Favorites

Image
When I was going to choose from myth folklore or Indian epics, I automatically gravitated towards myth folklore. That was probably because I love reading stories that are myths, they remind me of when I was a little girl and would ask my grandpa to tell me stories. From these I browsed the list of storybooks and was able to come up with three.  Ghost Stories The first I looked through was Ghost Stories. I love scary stories and this immediately grabbed my attention. Anytime people bring up scary stories I am always very eager to listen. Whether they are true are not, it is still something that interests me. This topic is very familiar to me. The title of the storybook was accurate as to what was in the storybook. It was organized by story. The introduction provided a clear and concise explanation of what was going to be in the storybook. The stories were all relevant and organized in a way that made sense. The introduction was written in a way that appeared to be based off of the

Mexico... My Favorite Place

Image
My favorite place is my parents hometown in Mexico. I have gone there every year since I was a little girl and it always brings back a nostalgic feeling. It is a very small town and everyone there knows each other. It is not a tourist place in Mexico but in my opinion that is what makes it that much better. This small town is located in the state of Jalisco, Mexico. I am fond of other beautiful places that I have visited but I think it makes it more special to me that some of my family lives there.                                               This image shows the oldest Catholic Church in the town. It is a town staple.   Above is a picture of the church that is in the small town. To most people that visit the town, this is an important figure. When you are first arriving to the town, you can see the lights from the top of the church and that makes it feel like a "welcome home".  My favorite part of visiting here is the serenity that it brings. I go from a busy sched
