Week 6 Story: Satyavati's Demise

Image
Mahabharata Donald A. Mackenzie When Satyavati was a young girl, she noticed she had a fishy smell to her that would not go away. She would complain to her father time and time again but there was nothing that he could do for her. She always wondered why it was her that got stuck with the smell and her brother got sent to live elsewhere. With this, she grew slightly bitter. Time passed and she grew older and one day she promised herself that when she would marry and have a child, the child would be granted with any luxury. Satyavati ferried passengers across the Yamuna and one day she met brahmin that vowed to take away the fishy odor if she bare his child. So she did and a pleasant smell came upon her. When this happened Satyavati's life completely turned around. She had all the attention she once lacked and arrogance came about her.  ; Satvyati resting on her boat. The brother was sent away and he kept the girl. Ganga: King Shantanu came across her and wanted to marry. They sons and each time one was born she cast them to the Ganges river. Week 5 Story: Vali's Story

Image
Ramayana  Valmiki In an attempt to defeat a creature who appeared as their enemy, Vali followed it into a hole within the earth. It was darkness down there and Vali searched under every rock and crevice for the creature. A week passed by and Vali began to grow worried that Sugriva might believe he was killed in battle and give up waiting on his brother's return. Vali disregarded those thoughts by having faith that his brother would wait for him, for he knew that Vali was strong and could defeat the enemy. Months passed by and finally Vali spotted the creature. He had to be clever with his attack so that he could not hide from him again. He planned it carefully and finally he attacked. The creature was stronger than he imagined and at times Vali grew weary in the fight. When he begin to become tired he would always remember that Sugriva was awaiting his return and it made him continue the fight. Finally, the creature was defeated and Vali was eager to return. Ramayana Romesh Dutt 1.Sugriva's brother believes that he filled the hole to keep him captive since he struggled so much to get out. Sugriva actually filled the hole because he thought his brother had been killed when he went in to defeat the enemy. The picture shows Vali and Sugriva.  2. Rama convinces Sugriva to challenge his brother after hearing his story. Once they approach, Vali knows he is there and is then told that he was defeated once and fled but this time he must have come back with someone for another battle. 3. Vali's wife was trying to keep from fighting with his brother because Rama was with him and that is someone to fear. Vali did not listen and told his wife to step aside because he did not back down from a fight.

Topic Research... Karma

Image
The topic I chose for my project is Karma. I am going to be writing the stories all to be based on Karma itself and its effects. 1. For one of the stories I will writing about a delay in karma. Many people believe that because it does not happen right away that they are safe from it. The link below is one that I found that was somewhat relevant to what I want this story to be. I am still tweaking the plot. https://www.huffingtonpost.com/gadadhara-pandit-dasa/karma-what-goes-around-comes-around_b_1081057.html 2. For this story I have decided to make it slightly different and have it based on good karma. Doing good things for others. However, I am going to not only make it about doing good things for others to get good karma but because being a good person is something we should always be regardless. https://www.gaiam.com/blogs/discover/how-to-attract-good-karma 3. For the third story I want to make it into a moral. For example, "what goes up must come down". Some pe

Ramayan a (Part D) Valmiki Plot: characters have conflict that can be tough through although others may be brought into it unwillingly. Apes were killed also. Develop plot according to this. Good always wins. Bad guy learns powerful lesson. (developed for story) The image above is from the epic.  Character: Similar to Rama, a  fearless leader that will approach the fight and succeed no matter what. Antagonizing character with bad intent and develops as plot opens up.

Topic Brainstorm

Image
Karma Karma would be a topic for my storybook that I would consider doing. I am a firm believer in karma and I think researching the topic would be interesting. There are many cases that have karmic effects so I could use those ideas in my stories. Many people do not believe in karma and I could also research that aspect of it and find ways to incorporate in my storybook. I know the overall idea of karma but I would like to learn the spiritual belief of it thoroughly. In my storybook, I would like to make each story about a case that deals with preventable karma. I do not only want it to be about karma but also how it can be prevented through our choices. The image above is a display of karma.  Reincarnation I am very interested in this topic because I am a skeptic. I am mostly skeptical because I have never really researched reincarnation. If I choose to do this for my storybook I will be able to research it more in depth and get a better understanding. I would like to le

Week 3 story... You Should Change

Story  Site   Carli was an only child and she loved it. Then one day her mother said to her, "Carli you are going to be a big sister!" To her dismay, she would no longer be an only child and that meant that what at one time was only hers, she would now have to share.  Time went by and eventually her mother gave birth to a little boy named Tommy. Carli hated sharing and would hide all the toys in her room, away from Tommy. She wanted everything only to herself. Her parents were not happy about her behavior but they also were not sure how to handle the situation exactly. The years went by and Carli only got worse. Every year at Tommy’s birthday party, Carli faked being sick so that she would have all of the attention. Eventually, this got old and people stopped buying her fake routine. Tommy who was very kind-hearted, always made sure his sister was happy and did whatever he could so that she would be. This, attracted people to Tommy, he was selfless and genuine. Carli h

Ramayana PDE By: Valmiki The point of view is in third person. I have been thinking about the point of view in which I would choose to write a story and I think it would be easier to write it in third person. However, I am looking to challenge myself and write it in first person and have the plot follow one character throughout and look into their experiences from their perspective. The character that I would choose to narrate in third person would probably be male simply because I want to veer away from narrating a female so that I am able to be creative and not put personal thoughts into the character itself. Some of the sentences in the story can be confusing and I reread twice to understand because of the language used. That is something I would like to do different. Vocabulary that is descriptive but also concise enough to be understood clearly is something very important in my opinion. The image above is from "Dasharatha's Funeral" which I personally like

Reading Notes... Part A Ramayan

Ramayan: Part A By : Valmiki For this week's notes,  I  decided to  focus  on the setting. The author describes it with such detail. I was able to picture the setting since it included so many descriptors. " In the palace gardens there were numerous birds and flowers, shady groves of fruit trees, and lakes gemmed with bee-loved lotuses...", this phrase is at the beginning which helps the reader be able to envision the place that they are reading  about. Usually, when I have done creative writing, I always focus on the characters and the plot and not so much about describing the setting. This helps shape the story and plot itself. This is important especially to this story because it speaks of royalty and their kingdoms so describing these beautiful places adds to the tone of the story. Continuing into the other sections, they describe animals that were there and that is also important because it helps with picturing the environment or surroundings in which the story wa
